Colleges and universities across the United States have recently chosen AstroTurf System 12 synthetic turf for their new field hockey facilities. Syracuse, Duke, and Pennsylvania State Universities have installed AstroTurf® fields, as have the Universities of Iowa and Vermont; Providence College and Ursinus College (home of the U.S. Field Hockey Hall of Fame), as well as other high-level field hockey installations.

Re-designed specifically for the wet surfaces preferred for top field hockey competition, AstroTurf® System 12 is a short, dense turf that allows for fast, smooth play.

All AstroTurf® nylon field hockey systems are hydrophilic, absorbing and holding water, which in turn reduces friction and abrasion and conserves water use.

In addition, AstroTurf® products are now protected by AlphaSan®, the first-ever antimicrobial agent for synthetic turf. AlphaSan® is incorporated directly into turf fibers to help prevent the growth of bacteria, algae, and fungi throughout the product’s useful life.

“AstroTurf® plays smooth and the fibers work well with the water system,” said Penn State Head Field Hockey Coach Charlene Morett. “In passing skills and stick work, I’d have to say AstroTurf® is the ultimate surface for field hockey.”

In fact, she credits AstroTurf® at least in part for Penn State’s record wins this season, and the University is so pleased with the new hockey facility they have named it AstroTurf Field. “I honestly believe we have the best field hockey field in the country,” said Morett.
